Dear Colleagues,   While Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, it’s also a time for us to reflect and remember those who died while serving in our Armed Forces. Thank you to all who served and selflessly fought for our freedom, and thank you to all of you who continue to serve in our military.   As a reminder, campus will be closed on Monday.   And now, for news around the college:   External Engagement   Meeting with Maud Daudon, President/CEO of Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Monday afternoon, I met with Maud Daudon, the President and CEO of Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Amy’s Update for the Week of 5-15-17

Dear Colleagues, Over the past several weeks, Dr. Elliot Stern and I have been interviewing candidates for open faculty positions. This is an important process that takes place each year, as we fill new tenure track and full-time faculty positions throughout the college. I appreciate the time and effort many of you have taken to help with this process, from participating in hiring committees, to providing tours, and assisting with the workload, where needed. Thank you! And now, for news around the college:   External Engagement Seattle Goodwill Board Meeting On Wednesday, I attended the monthly Seattle Goodwill Board Meeting. As I’ve mentioned before, I appreciate the opportunity to serve on this board with other community-focused business leaders from the Seattle area. The mission of Seattle Goodwill and the mission of the college are very similarly aligned. In fact, Seattle Goodwill is an employer partner on our new Workforce Development Council TAP grant that Cathy Copeland announced at the All Staff meeting yesterday (more on the grant below). OneRedmond 2017 State of the City Breakfast Thursday morning, I attended OneRedmond’s 2017 State of the City Breakfast. It was a great opportunity to hear Mayor John Marchione share his vision for Redmond, as well as updates from around the city. The Mayor specifically called out LWTech for our willingness to establish a win-win for our community by leasing the City our Redmond Campus for the Redmond Community Center. Thank you again to Bill Thomas for negotiating this lease. Visit to British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Today I’m meeting with the Vice President for Academics of BCIT, Dr. Tom Roemer on their campus...

Amy’s Update for the Week of 5-8-17

Dear Colleagues,   Last Saturday, the college wrapped up our annual plant sale. So many members of our community look forward to this event, and this year was no exception. There is a great deal of work that goes into preparing for, and staffing, the sale. I personally was so pleased to see so many of you supporting our Environmental Horticulture program and students. Thank you to the Environmental Horticulture faculty and students, LWTech Foundation Board of Directors, Foundation staff, and Foundation Board President Laura Wildfong who provided plants for the sale from her nursery, Northwest Nursery. Through Laura’s support, the Foundation was able to raise money for student scholarships.   And now, for news around the college:   Breaking News: I am so pleased to share that the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges has approved our newest applied baccalaureate degrees in Funeral Science and Behavioral Healthcare. A hearty congratulations to Dr. Elliot Stern, Deans Jamilyn Penn and Mike Potter, as well as Jamye Cameron, FSE Faculty Director and the Funeral Services faculty, and Rex Rempel, Associate Professor Social and Human Services.  The SBCTC also heard our proposal for a BAS in early childhood education. This tremendous progress has been the result of many across the college. Great work!   External Engagement   Study Session with Redmond City Council Monday evening I joined the Redmond Parks leadership in addressing the Redmond City Council regarding our proposed lease of our Redmond Campus to the City of Redmond for use as the new Redmond Community Center.
