Amy’s Update for the Week of 8/15

Dear Colleagues,   It has been a busy summer! I hope that you have found time to enjoy the nice weather, spend time with family and friends, and even watch some of the inspiring Olympics (I was so proud of gold medal swimmer Nathan Adrian from my hometown of Bremerton).  Recharging is important to maintaining our momentum as we go into the new school year. Speaking of that, I will be on vacation returning after Labor Day (although I will join you at the employee picnic-wouldn’t miss it). Thank you for all you do each day, and I look forward to seeing you when I return in September.   Events Last Week (Week of 8/8/16)   External Engagement   State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) Advocacy Steering Committee meeting Tuesday, I attended the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) Advocacy Steering Committee meeting via ITV. The committee, which is comprised of representatives from our college system, and the SBCTC, worked to develop messaging for our community and technical college system that will resonate with legislators, opinion leaders, and policy makers.   Staff Training for Technical and Community Colleges (STTACC) Conference Thursday, I welcomed the attendees of the STTACC conference that took place on our Kirkland campus August 11th and 12th.  Professionals from throughout our system came to the campus and were excited to listen to many of our colleagues discuss pertinent professional development issues. A special thank you to the staff and faculty who led a session as well as the LWTech planning committee members Rhonda DeWitt, Chelsie Akins-Stewart, Jamie Dye, Jo Stickney, Mony...

Amy’s Update for the Weeks of 7/25 and 8/1

Dear Colleagues,   You know it’s the middle of summer when the Blue Angels are flying and the hydroplane races are taking place on Lake Washington. Summer Seafair events make this beautiful place we call home so much fun! It also marks the first weekend of August, which means that we are actually about halfway through summer quarter – hard to believe. As we continue to build momentum through the quarter we are also deep into the planning for Opening Week events. Look for more about these activities soon. Thank you again for all you do to create a memorable and successful experience for our students!   Events Last Week (Week of 7/25/16)   External Engagement   Meeting with Board of Trustees Member, Neil Johnson On Monday the 25th, I met with Trustee Neil Johnson. It’s especially important during the summer months, when the Trustees are on their meeting hiatus, that I spend time with them to provide updates on happenings around the college, our community and technical college system, and our enrollments.   Cascade Water Alliance Board Meeting On Wednesday, Don Marshall and I attended the Cascade Water Alliance board meeting. It was a great opportunity for Don and I to talk about the college, specifically our Environment Horticulture program, and the Irrigation Learning Lab, which was created by Cascade Water Alliance on our Kirkland campus. This partnership is a great example of how our industry partners can create a hands-on learning environment not only for our students but for landscapers in our region who will visit our site for additional certification in sustainable landscaping. Thank you to Don Marshall...
