Dear Colleagues, It’s been a busy summer so far. So much has been going on throughout our campuses with planning for fall quarter, preparing for the PAX Prime conference, prepping for the new grant-funded programs, the arrival of new faculty and staff members, the development of new community partnerships, and moving forward on filling the Vice President of Instruction position, just to name a few. This summer seems busier than ever. I hope you are finding time to enjoy these warm days (and our air conditioning). These are exciting times at the college, and I want to thank you for your hard work. With that being said, here’s a quick summary of the latest happenings: External Engagement Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges (WACTC) President’s Retreat Last week, I was in Winthrop attending the Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges (WACTC) President’s Retreat. The three-day meeting focused on preparing for the next legislative session and filling the funding gaps left at the end of the current legislative session. The primary gaps were the lack of fully funding COLAs for I-732 employees (our faculty and classified staff), not enough backfill dollars to address the 5% tuition cut, and only funding 10 out of our 18 requested capital projects. I was pleased to start my new role as WACTC Legislative Committee Chair and serve on the Executive Committee.
